“Twenty years have flashed before my eyes. To let twenty more flash by would be unwise.”  The Station

Following in the path of first single ‘Something’s Gonna Give Way’ from his critically lauded second album ‘House of Jacks,’ second single ‘The Station’ is a subtle, exquisitely crafted folk song from award winning singer-songwriter Blair Dunlop.

As one of the highest creative moments of his already celebrated career, the song is quickly gaining critical praise across the board. Dave Haslam from R2 Magazine has firmly labelled its status as a “journey through life” that perfectly encapsulates Blair’s songwriting skills and superb guitar work”. Tim Cumming of Songlines simply compliments the song’s “matrix of acoustic finger picking and rumbling bass”, whereas Mike Ainscoe of Bright Young Folk recognises it as a “slow burner destined to gain major status on increased listens”, utilising “beautifully picked tumbling guitar notes and a soft shuffling rhythm”.

Inspired by the Robert J Hasting poem of the same name, the track has lyrically been defined by Blair himself as “considering the relative pros and cons of living in the moment and meticulously planning life”. The result of this insight displays a level of imagery and intimacy – punctuated by Mark Hutchinson’s rich production – that provides yet another example of Blair’s remarkable ability to work stories and metaphors into memorable, cohesive melodies.
